Introduced to the world of professional wrestling through  television at the tender age of 6, Chris LaPlante dreamt of someday  being a wrestler.  "I always wanted to do it."  His training started in 2001 after meeting his mentor, trainer and friend Chuck Simpson, a well-known Welland-area wrestling promoter since 1998.

After two weeks of a "trial training" period to see if Chris could cut it in the wrestling, and despite family and friend thinking he would quit, Chris pursued his wrestling training with Chuck with vigor and dedication, determined to prove the nay-sayers wrong.

Chris soon became one half of "lites Out" as he joined forces with friend and training "Madman" Derek C. (Comazzolo). However after Derek sustained some injuries, Chris was forced to go solo. The more involved in the sport and business he became, the further his obsession and passion grew. Debuting as "The Student in Training" on September 17, 2001, Chris suffered a beating at the hand of Magnus Van Steele, after he'd paid off Chris's original opponent, Kwan Chang, in a mission to disgrace the training school of Chuck Simpson. Chris soon realized that he had to change his name from "The Student in Training" and happened upon the slogan "Go Time" while playing basketball with friends one day.
